Man Gets 5 Years for Assault Resulting in Pregnancy

Conviction and Sentence

The Chikkamagaluru district and Pocso special court has sentenced a youth to five years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 for sexually assaulting a girl, which resulted in her pregnancy. The accused, Santhosh from Koppa taluk, was a relative of the victim.

Details of the Crime

In August 2024, Santhosh visited the girl's house and lured her with a false promise of marriage before sexually assaulting her. The assault led to the girl becoming pregnant, and she later gave birth to a baby boy, according to Special Prosecutor B Bharathkumar.

Investigation and Trial

A case was registered at Balehonnur police station, and after investigation, a chargesheet was submitted to the court. Judge Raghavendra Guruprasad Kulkarni conducted the trial and delivered the sentence. The court ordered that if Santhosh fails to pay the fine, he must undergo an additional six months of simple imprisonment.

Compensation Ordered

The court also directed that Rs 4 lakh in compensation be provided to the victim from the government's victim compensation fund.
