A tragic hit-and-run incident on Saturday night has claimed the life of a 45-year-old man in Gurgaon. The victim, identified as Safi Mohammad, a resident of Parsu village in Uttar Pradesh's Auraiya district, was struck by a speeding car while attempting to cross the expressway.
The Fatal Night on Gurgaon Expressway
The accident occurred near Pachgaon Chowk on Saturday night. According to the complaint filed by the victim's son, Hasan Ali, Safi Mohammad had arrived in Gurgaon that same night along with family members Arbaz and Chandbabu. A truck driver from their native Auraiya had dropped the group near the chowk.
From the drop-off point, the group began walking along the service road. Safi Mohammad was reportedly walking slightly behind the others. As they started to cross the highway to proceed towards Gurgaon, a car speeding from the direction of Delhi in the Delhi-to-Jaipur lane slammed into him. The impact was fatal.
Driver Flees, Police Launch Case
In a callous act, the driver of the car did not stop to help the victim or report the incident. Instead, the driver escaped from the spot with the vehicle, leaving Safi Mohammad grievously injured. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Following the complaint by Hasan Ali, the Manesar police station registered a formal case. The unidentified driver has been booked under relevant sections of the law, including Section 106 (death by negligence) and Section 281 (rash driving). A search is underway to trace the accused motorist and the vehicle involved in the deadly crash.
Ongoing Investigation and Road Safety Concerns
The police are investigating the sequence of events leading to the accident. This incident has once again highlighted the critical road safety issues on busy expressways, particularly concerning pedestrian crossings in non-designated areas. The fatal accident underscores the dangers posed by speeding vehicles and the devastating consequences of hit-and-run offenses.
The family of Safi Mohammad, originally from Auraiya district in Uttar Pradesh, is now seeking justice for their loss. The authorities are reviewing available evidence, including any CCTV footage from the vicinity, to identify and apprehend the absconding driver responsible for this negligent act.
