Man lynched after car hits woman in Varanasi, two held

A 36-year-old man was lynched by a mob in Ghamhapur village under Phulpur police station late on Sunday night after his car hit a woman who was washing utensils on the roadside. The incident occurred around 10:30 pm when Manish Singh was returning home in his car. The vehicle went out of control and struck Bindu Prajapati, causing her injuries.

Manish stepped out of the car to check on the woman, but he was attacked by her family members and neighbors. He sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Trauma Centre, BHU, where doctors declared him dead. Following the incident, tension prevailed in the village, prompting heavy police presence. A foot march was conducted, but it did not prevent the deceased's family and supporters from staging a massive demonstration and blocking the road when the body arrived after the post-mortem examination.

Police Intervention and Arrests

On Monday afternoon, DCP of Gomti zone, Neetu Kadian, and ACP Atul Anjan Tripathi successfully convinced the protestors to call off their stir and proceed with the cremation by assuring them that the guilty would not be spared. Officials stated that based on a complaint from Manish's family, an FIR was lodged against eight identified and seven unidentified persons. Two suspects have been arrested, and teams are working to arrest all accused.
