In a significant breakthrough, the Thane City Crime Branch has apprehended a 60-year-old man who had been evading capture for eight months. The accused is alleged to have murdered his wife following a bitter dispute over family property.

The Fatal Night and the Motive

The tragic incident traces back to the night of May 9, 2025. According to police reports, the accused, Anand Tulshiram Suryavanshi, allegedly killed his 47-year-old wife, Surekha, at their home in Mandlik Chawl, Ulhasnagar. The couple's argument reportedly escalated over plans to transfer a family property located in Dombivli to the accused's brother.

During the heated altercation, Suryavanshi is accused of attacking his wife with a sharp weapon. Police state he slit her throat, killing her on the spot. Following the crime, a case was registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The Elusive Eight-Month Manhunt

After committing the alleged crime, Anand Suryavanshi immediately disappeared. Investigators revealed he adopted extreme measures to avoid detection:

  • He abandoned the use of his mobile phone.
  • He frequently changed his locations across multiple districts.
  • He kept moving between areas including Jalgaon, Nashik, and Ahilyanagar.

This made the police's task of tracking him exceptionally challenging. The investigation involved months of persistent effort to trace his movements and contacts.

The Trap and Final Arrest in Nashik

The chase finally ended on Thursday, when a crucial tip-off led the police to the fugitive. Acting on specific intelligence that Suryavanshi would be visiting the Vihitgaon area near Nashik Road, a special team from the Thane Crime Branch swung into action.

The officers laid a strategic trap near a local Buddha Vihar. As anticipated, Suryavanshi arrived at the location, where he was swiftly surrounded and taken into custody. His arrest marks the culmination of an intensive search operation spanning several months and districts.

Following his arrest, the accused was presented before a local court. The court has remanded him to police custody until January 14 for further interrogation and investigation into the case.
