In a shocking incident from Tirupati, a man was publicly paraded by police after he allegedly assaulted a woman who was six months pregnant. The arrest followed a violent altercation that erupted over the noise from celebratory firecrackers.
Celebration Turns Violent in Tanakallu Mandal
The incident occurred on Tuesday in Muthyalavari Palli, located within the Tanakallu mandal of the Sri Sathya Sai district. According to police officials, the accused, identified as Pushpala Ajay Deva (25), and his family were bursting firecrackers outside their home. They were celebrating the birthday of former Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy.
The loud noise from the crackers disturbed neighbours, leading to a confrontation. P Sandhya Rani (29), who is six months pregnant, objected to the disturbance. She reportedly asked Ajay and his family to move their celebration elsewhere to reduce the noise.
Alleged Assault on Pregnant Woman
Police stated that instead of heeding her request, Ajay entered into a heated argument with Sandhya Rani. The situation quickly escalated. It is alleged that Ajay caught the pregnant woman by the neck and then kicked her in the stomach.
Following the assault, Sandhya Rani filed a formal complaint with the local police. Acting promptly on her complaint, the police registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Police Take Strict Action and Public Parading
The Sri Sathya Sai district police swiftly arrested the accused, Pushpala Ajay Deva. In a move intended to serve as a strong deterrent, the police paraded the arrested man on the streets of the area. This public display was explicitly described as a warning to others.
Kadiri DSP Siva Narayana Swamy addressed the media, emphasizing the department's zero-tolerance policy. He stated that the police treat crimes against women and children with the utmost seriousness. The DSP assured that strict legal action would follow in this case, underscoring the commitment to women's safety in the region.
This incident has highlighted the severe consequences of public nuisance turning violent and the specific vulnerabilities faced by pregnant women. The police's decisive action, including the public parading, signals a tough stance against such offences in Tirupati and the broader Sri Sathya Sai district.
