Mandya Man Arrested in Major Ganja Smuggling Case
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Karnataka police have arrested a man from Mandya district for allegedly smuggling 111 kilograms of ganja. The narcotics were being transported from Odisha in a car and were intended for sale in Tumakuru.
Details of the Seizure
The accused, whose identity has been withheld pending further investigation, was intercepted by a special police team during a routine check. The contraband, valued at several lakhs in the illicit market, was found concealed in the vehicle. Preliminary inquiries suggest that the ganja was sourced from Odisha, a state known for its high production of cannabis.
Modus Operandi
According to officials, the smugglers had planned to deliver the consignment to buyers in Tumakuru. The arrest came after a tip-off about a suspicious vehicle traveling from the eastern state. Police are now probing whether the accused is part of a larger network involved in interstate drug trafficking.
Legal Action
The suspect has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He is currently in police custody, and further interrogations are underway to identify other accomplices. The seized ganja has been sent for chemical analysis to confirm its composition.
This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by Karnataka law enforcement to curb the flow of illegal drugs into the state. Authorities have urged citizens to report any suspicious activities related to narcotics.
