Body Discovered in River, Identity Established

In a grim discovery, the body of a 58-year-old man was found floating in the Poovanpara River near Attingal on Monday morning. Locals spotted the remains around 7:30 am and promptly alerted the Attingal police.

Police personnel rushed to the scene and, with assistance from residents, retrieved the body from the water. Preliminary estimates suggest the body was approximately three days old.

Deceased Identified, Family Informed

During the initial examination, officers found a bag near the body containing identification documents. This led to the deceased being identified as Biju Gopalan, a resident of Alamkode.

The police subsequently contacted his family. Investigations revealed that Gopalan had been living separately from his wife for nearly two decades following marital discord. His wife later arrived at the location and formally identified the body.

Police Probe All Angles, Await Autopsy

After completing the mandatory inquest procedures, the body was shifted for a postmortem examination. The Attingal police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation.

Officials stated that the exact circumstances leading to Gopalan's death are yet to be established. All possibilities, including accidental death, are being thoroughly examined. Authorities have indicated that more concrete details are expected only after the autopsy report is received.
