New Delhi: Nearly a month after a 17-year-old boy was allegedly attacked with a paper cutter at the parade ground parking near the Red Fort, police have apprehended a minor in connection with the case.
Police said they received information on April 5 from Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital that a teenager had been admitted with injuries caused by a sharp object to his neck and abdomen following a quarrel. A case was subsequently registered.
“The photograph of the suspect, obtained from CCTV footage, was shared with residents of the Chandni Chowk area, who helped identify him,” said deputy commissioner of police (north) Raja Banthia.
The juvenile was traced to Anekhi village in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand, police said. During questioning, the accused told investigators that he became angry after the victim refused to give him money to buy drugs and allegedly slapped him.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Juvenile Justice Act. The minor has been produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and sent to a correctional home.
The incident highlights the growing concern over juvenile crime in the national capital. Authorities are investigating whether the suspect had any prior criminal record or involvement in similar offenses. Further inquiries are underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the attack.
