A major security scare led to the complete evacuation of the Moga court complex on Thursday after authorities received a threatening email. The incident triggered a swift and large-scale response from the Punjab Police, who cordoned off the area and launched an intensive search operation.
Massive Police Response to Security Threat
Upon receiving the threat mail at the official email ID of the District and Sessions Judge, a heavy police force was immediately dispatched to the scene. The contingent included an anti-sabotage team and a dog squad, tasked with a thorough sensitisation of the entire complex. Moga Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Gandhi confirmed the police action, stating that all standard security drills were promptly initiated.
Court Complex Cleared, Judicial Officers Moved to Safety
As a precautionary measure, all judicial officers present in the complex were relocated to a safer location. Simultaneously, litigants and other visitors were asked to vacate the premises temporarily to allow security teams to work without obstruction. The police teams meticulously searched courtrooms, corridors, and lawyers' chambers to rule out any potential threat.
A similar security exercise was concurrently carried out at the Ferozepur court complex, indicating a coordinated response to the perceived threat. SSP Gandhi emphasised that the nature and specifics of the threat are currently under investigation. The primary focus of the administration remains the safety and security of all individuals involved, and all necessary precautions are being taken.
Investigation Underway, Security Heightened
The police are now delving into the origins and credibility of the threatening email. While the immediate search operation did not yield any hazardous findings, the alert underscores the vulnerability of public institutions. The incident has prompted a review of security protocols at key judicial installations in the region to prevent such scares in the future.
