Mohali Bar Attack: 17 Booked for Rioting, Attempt to Murder

A late-night dispute over a restaurant bill escalated into a violent attack and large-scale vandalism at a popular bar in New Chandigarh, Mohali, leading to the registration of a serious case by local police.

Violent Escalation Over Bill Dispute

The incident unfolded at the Amresia Bar and Restaurant, located on Airport Road within the Omaxe Amresia complex. According to the police complaint, the trouble began on the evening of January 3, when a group of 15-20 youths arrived for a pre-booked party around 7:30 PM.

The group settled their bill at approximately 11:30 PM. However, soon after payment, they allegedly accused the staff of overcharging them. This accusation sparked a heated argument with the restaurant's manager.

Owner Assaulted, Property Vandalised

When the establishment's owner, Shivam Gautam (33), intervened to calm the situation, he was met with verbal abuse and physical assault. The group initially left the premises but returned within 10-15 minutes, this time armed with weapons.

The attackers allegedly surrounded Gautam and launched a brutal assault. One of the named accused, Harjpreet Singh, is reported to have struck Gautam's head with a sharp-edged weapon. Another, Jaskaran Singh, attempted to hit his face, causing a serious ear injury.

After assaulting the owner, the group then turned their rage on the property. They vandalised furniture and other items inside the bar and restaurant before fleeing the scene. The complainant stated that the assailants also issued death threats before their departure.

Police Action and Aftermath

The injured owner, Shivam Gautam, a native of Haryana residing in New Chandigarh, was rushed to Max Hospital in Phase-6 for urgent medical attention. Doctors confirmed he sustained five distinct injuries, some of which were inflicted by sharp weapons.

Following the incident, the Mullanpur police have registered a formal case. The case has been filed against a total of 17 persons. This includes two named accused—Harjpreet Singh and Jaskaran Singh—and approximately 15–16 other unidentified youths who were part of the group.
