Mohali Businessman Targeted with Rs 4 Crore Ransom and Death Threats from International Gang
In a disturbing incident in Mohali, a businessman from Kharar has come forward with allegations of receiving repeated ransom calls demanding a staggering Rs 4 crore from an international number. The victim also reported receiving explicit death threats, escalating fears for his safety and that of his family. The caller, who identified himself as a member of the notorious Kaushal Chaudhary gang, allegedly used intimidation tactics by referencing the murder of slain kabaddi promoter Rana Balachauria to terrorize the businessman.
Police Register Case and Launch Investigation
A formal case has been registered at the City Kharar police station against the unknown accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Kharar DSP Karan Singh Sandhu confirmed the registration, stating, "A case was registered following the threat, and investigation is on. Assistance of the cyber police is being taken to trace and apprehend the accused." Further investigation is actively underway, with authorities leveraging cyber forensic tools to track the perpetrators.

According to the complaint filed by the businessman, the harassment began on December 17, 2025, with repeated WhatsApp calls and voice messages. The caller allegedly demanded Rs 4 crore and issued a chilling threat: "I did Rana's work, now I should do my own thing. If you don't pay, the same thing will happen to you." The victim, who knew Rana Balachauria personally, expressed that the accused exploited this connection to instill fear in him and his family. Additionally, he reported spotting suspicious individuals loitering outside his residence late on December 19, raising concerns about possible surveillance.
The businessman has handed over crucial evidence to the police, including call recordings and message screenshots. A technical team is currently analyzing the cyber trail, focusing on the location of the international number and details linked to the WhatsApp account used in the threats.
Pattern of Similar Incidents and Police Response
Police officials have noted a troubling pattern, with similar ransom calls targeting businessmen and Punjabi artists emerging in recent months. Notable figures such as singers Himanshi Khurana and Mankirt Aulakh have also reported threats in the name of gangsters, indicating a broader trend of criminal intimidation. Authorities suspect that gang operatives based abroad are utilizing internet calling platforms to spread fear and extort money from victims.
