A tragic road accident in Mumbai's Mulund area claimed the life of a 37-year-old pedestrian on Saturday. The victim, identified as Suresh Babu Jagtap, was fatally struck by a dumper while walking along the road.
Details of the Fatal Incident
According to the Mulund police, the accident occurred when Jagtap, a resident of Khindi Pada in Bhandup, was walking on the road. The dumper, allegedly driven in a rash manner, rammed into him, causing severe injuries. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Legal Action Against the Driver
The police have identified the driver as Brijesh Somnath Yadav. Authorities have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against him under multiple sections of the law. The charges include Sections 281 and 106(1) of the new Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNS), read with Sections 134(A)(B) and 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The case has been filed for alleged rash and negligent driving, as well as for the driver's failure to provide assistance after causing the accident. The police have seized the involved vehicle as part of the ongoing investigation.
Ongoing Investigation and Road Safety Concerns
Further investigation into the exact circumstances of the accident is currently underway. This incident has once again highlighted critical road safety issues in the city, particularly concerning the safety of pedestrians and the operation of heavy vehicles in residential and busy areas.
The use of the newly implemented Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita in this case marks a significant legal step, replacing the older Indian Penal Code sections typically applied in such incidents.
