Nagpur: Rs 53 Lakh MD Drug Seized, Two Arrested

In a significant crackdown on narcotics, the Nagpur police have successfully intercepted a major drug deal, leading to the seizure of MD (commonly known as ecstasy) valued at a staggering Rs 53 lakh and the arrest of two individuals from Rajasthan. The operation was carried out on Tuesday based on specific intelligence inputs.

Acting on a Tip-Off: The Police Operation

The MIDC police unit in Nagpur received credible information that two persons were planning to sell a large quantity of the party drug MD near Sangam Road in Wanadongri. Acting swiftly on this tip, a police team moved to the location and apprehended the suspects on the spot.

The Accused and the Contraband

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ramswaroop Bhairaram Bishnoi (24) and Hariram Jagdish Paliwal (31). Both are residents of Kalyanpur tehsil in Rajasthan's Balotra district. Upon their arrest, the police recovered the illicit substance in their possession.

An official confirmed that the duo was carrying 533 grams of MD (Methylenedioxymethamphetamine), with an estimated street value exceeding Rs 53 lakh. The substantial quantity indicates the scale of the intended illegal trade.

Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation

The police have registered a formal case against the accused under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This act prescribes severe penalties for the production, possession, and sale of banned substances. The investigation is ongoing to uncover the source of the drugs, their intended distribution network, and possible links to larger syndicates.

This seizure underscores the continued vigilance of Nagpur police against the narcotics trade and their commitment to curbing the supply of dangerous drugs in the region. Such actions are crucial in protecting the youth and maintaining public order.
