A school van transporting students met with a serious accident in Namakkal district on Tuesday, leaving six people injured. The incident occurred in Selambakoundampalayam near Tiruchengode.

Sudden Mechanical Failure Causes Overturn

According to police from the Elachipalayam station, the accident was caused by a sudden mechanical failure. The van's engine fan belt got cut without warning, leading the driver to lose control and the vehicle to overturn. The van was carrying approximately 30 individuals, most of whom were students.

Details of the Injured and Immediate Response

The injured were promptly identified and provided medical care. The driver, R Rahul Kannan, aged 25, was among those hurt. The five students who sustained injuries are:

  • P Hariguru, 12: Suffered a cut wound on the front of his head and required three stitches.
  • D Keerthivasan, 14
  • V Deeran Aaditya, 6
  • C Rasmita Shree, 13
  • M Nidarsana, 12

While Hariguru's injury was more significant, the other four students sustained minor injuries. All the injured were treated at the Vaiyappamalai Government Primary Health Centre.

Ongoing Investigation and School Affiliation

Authorities confirmed that the van involved in the accident belonged to the Vinayaka Matriculation School. The Elachipalayam police have registered a case and are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fan belt failure and the overall condition of the vehicle. This incident has raised concerns about the routine safety checks of school transport in the region.
