Haveri Lok Adalat on Dec 13 to Settle Cases, Offers 50% Fine Concession
National Lok Adalat in Haveri Courts on December 13

The district and taluk courts in Haveri will host a National Lok Adalat on December 13, offering a significant opportunity for citizens to resolve a wide array of pending and pre-litigation disputes amicably. The initiative, aimed at reducing the burden on the judiciary and providing speedy justice, was announced by Biradar Devindrappa N, the district judge and chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).

Peace Through Compromise: The Core Objective

Addressing reporters, Judge Biradar emphasized the intrinsic value of peace and harmony in life, which cannot be purchased. He stated that minimizing visits to courts and hospitals is key to a peaceful existence. The Lok Adalat provides a formal platform where disputes can be settled through mutual compromise, thereby saving both time and money for all parties involved. This process also helps in preserving relationships that might otherwise be strained by prolonged legal battles.

The scope of cases eligible for settlement is broad. It includes:

  • Pending cases in civil and family courts
  • Matrimonial disputes
  • Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) cases
  • Cheque dishonour matters under NI Act
  • Commercial and service cases
  • Compoundable criminal cases
  • Consumer disputes
  • Land acquisition and partnership issues

Financial Benefits and Concessions for Litigants

A major incentive for parties to opt for the Lok Adalat is the full refund of court fees if a case is settled through compromise. Furthermore, a substantial concession has been announced for traffic violators. For pending cases registered under the Motor Vehicles Act between 1991-92 and 2019-20, vehicle owners can avail a 50% concession on the payable fine.

This concession is being implemented as per the directives of the State Legal Services Authority. Judge Biradar clarified that the window to pay these reduced fines is open from November 21, 2025, to December 12, 2025. The Adalat itself will be held the following day.

Guidance and Procedure at the Adalat

The judge assured that both parties in a dispute will receive proper guidance and assistance from the legal services authorities present in court to facilitate a fair compromise. The presence of Judge Shreeshailaja, the member secretary of the DLSA, alongside Judge Biradar during the announcement, underscores the institutional support for this initiative.

The National Lok Adalat represents a crucial effort to decongest courts and deliver accessible justice. By encouraging out-of-court settlements, it not only provides immediate relief to litigants but also fosters a culture of dialogue and reconciliation within the community of Haveri district.
