Major Drug Bust in Hyderabad: NCB Seizes 813 Kilograms of Ganja
In a major operation against interstate drug trafficking, the Narcotics Control Bureau Hyderabad Zone achieved a significant breakthrough. Officers seized a massive 813 kilograms of ganja and arrested three individuals during the early morning hours of January 13, 2026.
Coordinated Operation Based on Intelligence
Acting on precise intelligence inputs, two specialized NCB teams launched a coordinated operation. Their target was a suspicious vehicle moving through the outskirts of Hyderabad. The teams successfully intercepted the vehicle, which was a specially modified lorry.
Investigations revealed the lorry was transporting the contraband from Malkangiri district in Odisha. Its intended destination was Latur in Maharashtra. Sources indicated the ganja was ultimately meant for distribution in major cities including Delhi and Mumbai.
Sophisticated Concealment Methods Uncovered
Upon interception, officers conducted a thorough search under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985. They discovered the lorry operated with an expired Registration Certificate. More importantly, they found extensive modifications designed specifically for smuggling.
The team uncovered a large hidden cylindrical cavity cleverly designed to resemble a storage tank. To further evade detection, traffickers had camouflaged the compartment with grass and a tarpaulin sheet. Inside this concealed space, officers recovered the entire bulk shipment of 813 kilograms of ganja.
Arrests and Criminal Backgrounds
The three arrested suspects were all identified as residents of Bidar district. Preliminary investigations revealed troubling details about one of the accused. This individual was a habitual offender with a prior criminal record involving narcotics.
Records showed he was previously implicated in two separate drug-related cases. These cases occurred in both Karnataka and Maharashtra, indicating his involvement in interstate drug networks.
Expansive Investigation Underway
The NCB is currently conducting an expansive investigation to dismantle the broader trafficking syndicate. Their focus includes several critical areas:
- Identifying the exact source of the drugs in Odisha
- Mapping the intended destination network across multiple states
- Tracing the financial trails associated with the smuggling operation
Officials confirmed that further legal proceedings are ongoing. Investigators are examining both forward and backward linkages to understand the complete network. This operation represents a significant blow to interstate cannabis trafficking routes operating through Hyderabad.
