Police Uncover Drug Smuggling Operation Using Chocolate Boxes

Police in Panchkula have cracked a clever drug smuggling racket. Criminals were hiding opium inside chocolate boxes. They sent these boxes to Bengaluru using a courier service.

How Police Discovered the Racket

The case began on September 10th. Officials at the DTDC Express Courier Company became suspicious. They found a parcel that seemed unusual. This parcel was booked from Sector 44 in Chandigarh. Its destination was Bengaluru.

The courier company staff immediately alerted the police. Officers from the Panchkula Crime Branch in Sector 19 took charge of the investigation.

"When we opened the parcel with police present, we saw packets of chocolates," said ACP Arvind Kamboj. "A thorough inspection revealed 74 grams of opium hidden inside those chocolate boxes."

The Arrest and Recovery

After finding the drugs, police registered a case at Sector 20 police station. They filed charges under Section 18 of the NDPS Act. An investigation began right away.

Police teams worked hard to track down the people involved. On January 12th, they received crucial information. The suspect, Gurnit Singh, also known as Gunnu, was in Sector 44D of Chandigarh. He had come there in connection with the parcel.

The Crime Branch team acted quickly. They set a trap and arrested Gurnit Singh, who is a resident of Mohali.

DCP Manpreet Singh Sudan provided details about the legal proceedings. "We produced the accused before a court," he said. "The court granted us six days of police remand for interrogation."

During this remand period, police will question Gurnit Singh intensively. Their goal is to identify the main supplier of the opium. They also plan to find and arrest the person in Bengaluru who was supposed to receive the drugs.

Police Commitment to Fighting Drug Smuggling

Panchkula Police Commissioner Shibash Kabiraj spoke strongly about the case. "Drug smugglers are like termites destroying our society," he stated. "They ruin the future of our youth. No matter how modern or clever their methods become, our vigilance and technical investigations will catch them."

Commissioner Kabiraj emphasized that police aims go beyond simply seizing drugs. "We want to uproot the entire smuggling network," he declared.

Police confirmed that further investigation is ongoing. They are working to expose the complete chain involved in this smuggling operation. More arrests are likely in the coming days as the investigation progresses.

The recovery of 74 grams of opium represents a significant bust. It highlights how drug smugglers are using creative methods to transport illegal substances. The use of chocolate boxes as concealment shows their attempt to avoid detection.

This case demonstrates effective cooperation between courier companies and law enforcement. The alertness of DTDC Express Courier Company officials played a crucial role in uncovering the racket.
