Indian Army troops apprehended a 26-year-old infiltrator from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district on Friday, officials confirmed on Saturday. The individual, identified as Mohammad Sajad, a resident of Polas village in the Abbaspur area of PoK, was taken into custody after crossing into the Indian side through the Gulpur area of the Krishna Ghati sector.
Initial Interrogation and Claims
According to officials, preliminary questioning revealed that Sajad claimed to have inadvertently crossed the LoC and entered Indian territory. He told interrogators that his crossing was unintentional. However, security agencies are treating the claim with caution and are conducting further questioning to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding his entry.
Security Verification Underway
Officials stated that the individual is currently in custody and that security agencies are verifying his statements. "We are verifying his claims and conducting detailed interrogation to determine if there is any larger motive behind his crossing," a security official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. The verification process includes checking his background and any possible links to militant groups.
Heightened Vigilance Along LoC
The incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in monitoring the LoC, which has seen numerous infiltration attempts over the years. The Army maintains a high state of alert to thwart any attempts by militants or unauthorized individuals to cross the border. This apprehension is part of continued efforts to maintain security and prevent any untoward incidents in the region.
