LUCKNOW: Sirathu MLA and Apna Dal (Kamerawadi) chief Pallavi Patel was booked by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) after she staged a protest with a large number of party workers at Charbagh railway station on Saturday afternoon. The demonstration, which began around 1.15 pm and ended within a few minutes, saw Patel climbing atop an inspection rail car stationed on platform number 3, while several supporters spread across railway tracks inside the station premises.
Details of the Incident
According to SHO, RPF Charbagh Northern Railway, Bhupinder Chaudhary, the protest was brief but drew attention due to the involvement of a prominent political figure. Senior Divisional Security Commissioner of Northern Railway Lucknow division, Devaansh Shukla, confirmed that a case has been lodged against Pallavi Patel and several unidentified persons under sections 145 and 147 of the Railway Act. These sections pertain to nuisance and trespassing on railway property and tracks, which are serious offenses given the potential safety risks.
Impact on Railway Operations
Station director of Charbagh railway station, Gaurav Dixit, stated that railway operations were not affected by the protest, as it ended quickly. He also noted that no railway property was damaged during the demonstration. However, the incident raises concerns about the safety of such actions, especially considering Section 156 of the Railways Act, which prohibits dangerous passenger behavior such as traveling on the roof, steps, or engine of a train.
Political Context
Pallavi Patel, a prominent leader of the Apna Dal (Kamerawadi), has been vocal on various issues. This protest appears to be part of her political activism, though the specific demands or reasons for the demonstration were not immediately clear. The RPF's swift action indicates a zero-tolerance policy toward such acts, which could endanger lives and disrupt rail services.
Legal Consequences
The booked individuals may face legal proceedings under the Railway Act, which could result in fines or imprisonment. The case highlights the strict regulations governing railway property and the importance of adhering to safety protocols. As the investigation continues, more details may emerge regarding the motivations behind the protest and the identities of other participants.
