The city of Panchkula ushered in the New Year with peace and order, thanks to a comprehensive and meticulously executed security plan by the local police. The celebrations concluded without major incident under the vigilant supervision of senior officers who monitored the situation throughout the night.
Meticulous Security Deployment Across the City
To ensure public safety, the Panchkula Police established a robust security grid across the district. A total of 48 police checkpoints were strategically set up to monitor movement and prevent untoward incidents. The entire operation was personally overseen by DCP Panchkula, Srishti Gupta, and DCP Crime and Traffic, Manpreet Singh Sudan, who remained on the ground all night.
According to DCP Srishti Gupta, additional police personnel were deployed at sensitive locations across the city. This included clubs, hotels, religious places, and popular tourist spots that typically see large gatherings. The police force maintained a strong field presence, with all Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), Station House Officers (SHOs), police post in-charges, and crime branch teams stationed in their respective areas.
Continuous Patrols and Traffic Vigilance
The dynamic component of the security plan involved constant mobile surveillance. A fleet of 29 rider teams, 12 PCR vehicles, and 19 Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) patrolled the district continuously. This ensured rapid response capabilities to any situation while acting as a visible deterrent.
On the traffic front, DCP Manpreet Singh Sudan stated that all necessary arrangements were made in advance. A key focus was on curbing the menace of drunk driving. Special checkpoints were established specifically for this purpose. The drive proved effective, resulting in 68 traffic challans being issued and four vehicles impounded for violations.
Public Cooperation Key to Success
DCP Srishti Gupta emphasized that while police arrangements were thorough, the peaceful festivities were also a result of responsible citizen behavior. She acknowledged the cooperation of the public in adhering to police appeals and guidelines. The police also took care to ensure that the general public did not face unnecessary inconvenience during the checks and celebrations, striking a balance between security and convenience.
The coordinated effort between the police department and the citizens of Panchkula ensured that the New Year celebrations were not only joyful but also safe and secure, setting a positive tone for the year ahead.
