In a shocking incident from Bihar's capital district, a teenage boy has been taken into custody by Phulwarisharif police for the alleged murder of a 16-year-old. The victim, identified as Golu Kumar, was reportedly strangled in the early hours of Thursday in a village under the Patna district jurisdiction.
Swift Police Action and Alleged Motive
Law enforcement officials demonstrated remarkable efficiency, making an arrest within a mere two hours of the crime being reported. The incident occurred on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. According to Ghulam Shahbaz Alam, the in-charge of Phulwarisharif police station, the primary motive appears to be an illicit relationship between the deceased and the detained boy's sister. Both families resided in the same neighbourhood.
During initial interrogation, the accused confessed to the police. He stated that he had warned Golu Kumar to stay away from his sister on 8 to 10 separate occasions. The situation escalated three days before the fatal attack when, after a fight, the accused explicitly threatened to kill Golu. Despite these repeated warnings, the victim continued to meet the girl, with a meeting reportedly taking place on New Year's Day.
A Premeditated and Brutal Attack
Enraged by this final meeting, the teenage boy, along with some friends, went to Golu's house. In a chilling sequence of events, they locked the door from inside. The accused then allegedly proceeded to strangle Golu Kumar to death. After committing the act, the group locked the main gate from the outside before fleeing the scene.
Police recovered the victim's body, which bore clear visible strangulation marks on the neck. Key pieces of evidence, including Golu's mobile phone and a jacket belonging to the accused, were seized from the crime scene. The investigation gained crucial momentum from statements provided by the girl at the centre of the dispute and her family members, which led to the quick identification and detention of the suspect.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Process
Sushil Kumar, the SDPO-1 of Phulwarisharif, confirmed the detention and emphasized that a comprehensive probe is ongoing. "Further investigation into all aspects of the case is underway," Kumar stated. The victim's body has been sent to AIIMS-Patna for a detailed postmortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death and gather further forensic evidence.
Police officials are continuing their probe to uncover every detail, including the precise role of the friends who allegedly assisted in the crime. The swift resolution of the case within hours highlights the police's responsive action, yet it underscores a deeply troubling instance of vigilantism and violence among youths in the region.
