Patna teen missing for a week, family protests police inaction

A 17-year-old intermediate student's disappearance in Patna district has sparked a protest by his distressed family, who accuse the local police of failing to take effective action in the case that is now a week old.

Family Stages Protest Outside Police Station

Late on Sunday night, the family of the missing teenager gathered outside the Masaurhi police station in Patna district. They were protesting what they called a lack of progress and serious effort by the officers in tracing the boy. The student, identified as Rohit Sharma, also known as Kishu, has been missing since December 29, 2025.

Details of the Disappearance

Kishu, who was living with his maternal grandfather, Dr. Satish Kumar, a general physician, in Masaurhi for his studies, left home around 10 am on December 29. He told his maternal grandmother he was heading for his coaching classes and even borrowed Rs 150 from her to purchase notebooks. However, he never reached his coaching institute and failed to return home. His mobile phone has been switched off since, severing all contact.

A missing person report was filed at the Masaurhi police station on the same day he vanished. The family maintains that the police have not conducted an effective search for the boy, leading to their late-night demonstration.

Police Investigation and Conflicting Claims

When contacted, Vivek Bharti, the in-charge of Masaurhi police station, stated that investigation efforts are ongoing. "Raids are underway to trace him. His cellphone location is also being tracked," Bharti said.

The officer presented a different angle, suggesting the boy might have left voluntarily. "The boy may have left home due to harassment by his family members, even as they denied this. The police questioned some of his friends, and they said that Kishu was harassed by his family, especially his uncle," Bharti explained.

He added that CCTV footage from the area confirmed the boy leaving his house alone, but his arrival at the coaching center was not captured. "Our team will soon locate the boy, following which the exact reason will be known," the police officer assured, emphasizing that the investigation is actively proceeding.

The case has left the family in anguish as they await any breakthrough, while the police continue their search based on the available technical and human intelligence.
