Udupi's Pejawar seer, Swami Vishwesha Tirtha, has refrained from commenting on the allegations of financial irregularities in the construction of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir, stating that the truth must come out through a fair investigation. Expressing confidence in the government, the seer said he believed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) would conduct a thorough and impartial probe into the allegations.
Seer's cautious stance
Speaking to reporters in Udupi on Wednesday, Swami Vishwesha Tirtha said, "I have no personal knowledge of the alleged irregularities. The SIT has been formed to look into the matter, and I trust that the truth will come out. Until the investigation is complete, it is not appropriate for me to comment." The seer's remarks come amid growing public discourse on the financial management of the Ram Mandir project, which has drawn significant donations from devotees across the country.
Background of the allegations
Allegations of financial mismanagement surfaced earlier this month, with some donors claiming that funds collected for the temple construction were not properly accounted for. The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which oversees the project, has denied any wrongdoing, stating that all transactions are transparent. However, the state government constituted an SIT to investigate the claims, a move that has been welcomed by various religious leaders.
Impact on devotees and temple trust
The controversy has caused concern among devotees who have contributed generously to the temple. According to trust officials, over ₹3,600 crore has been collected in donations since the foundation stone was laid in 2020. The trust has assured that all funds are used solely for the temple construction and related activities. Swami Vishwesha Tirtha urged devotees not to lose faith, emphasizing that the temple is a symbol of national pride and unity.
The SIT is expected to submit its report within three months. Meanwhile, the construction of the Ram Mandir continues on schedule, with the sanctum sanctorum expected to be completed by early next year.
