PMPML CMD Awhad Escapes Injury in Car Crash

Pune: The chairman and managing director (CMD) of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML), Mahesh Awhad, narrowly escaped serious injury after his car collided with a minibus on the Pune-Mumbai expressway near Malavli, approximately 58 kilometers from the city. The incident occurred on Thursday evening while Awhad was returning to Pune from Mumbai.

Details of the Accident

The accident took place around 3:30 PM when Awhad's vehicle was en route to Pune. According to Awhad, the minibus driver suddenly executed a U-turn near Malavli, causing the collision. Speaking to TOI, Awhad stated, "The accident happened around 3.30pm when we were returning to Pune from Mumbai. When we reached Malavli, a mini-bus driver all of a sudden took a U-turn. Our car crashed into it."

Injuries Sustained

While Awhad himself sustained only minor injuries, his driver and bodyguard, who were seated in the front, suffered severe injuries. Awhad remarked, "We had a narrow escape because thankfully, no other vehicles were nearby when the accident happened." The quick response from emergency services ensured that the injured were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Legal Action

The Pune Rural police have registered a case of negligent driving against the minibus driver. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances leading to the accident. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution, especially on high-speed expressways, to prevent such incidents.
