Police Driver Among 5 Accused in Korba Gang Rape

A shocking incident in Chhattisgarh's Korba district has left the police force red-faced after a driver attached to their own emergency response service was implicated in a horrific crime. A 19-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by five men, one of whom was a private driver posted with the Dial-112 unit.

Details of the Horrific Assault

The traumatic incident took place on Thursday night in the Bankimongra area. According to the police account, one of the accused, who was known to the survivor, lured her out of her home under a pretext. He took her to a secluded spot where four other men, including the Dial-112 driver, were waiting. The group then allegedly took turns to sexually assault the young woman.

After the brutal attack, the accused men fled the scene, leaving the victim unconscious. She later regained consciousness and, mustering immense courage and strength, managed to return home. There, she disclosed the entire ordeal to her family members.

Police Action and Investigation

The family immediately rushed the survivor to the medical college hospital for treatment and also informed the police. A zero FIR was initially registered at the Civil Lines police station before the case was transferred to the Bankimongra police station for a detailed investigation.

Korba Superintendent of Police Siddharth Tiwari addressed the media, confirming the arrests. "Two accused, including the private driver posted with the Dial-112 unit, have been detained," stated SP Tiwari. He added that special teams have been formed to track down the three remaining absconding accused, assuring the public that their arrest is imminent.

Fallout and Ongoing Efforts

The involvement of a personnel linked to a critical police emergency service like Dial-112 has caused significant embarrassment and raised serious concerns. Meanwhile, the investigation is progressing on multiple fronts.

Forensic teams have thoroughly examined the crime scene for evidence. Police are also recording statements from witnesses and the survivor's family. The young woman is currently receiving necessary medical care and psychological counselling. Authorities have promised that the strictest legal action will be taken once all five accused are in custody.

In a bid to apprehend the fugitives, the Bankimongra police have intensified their search operations, conducting raids at several suspected locations. Further arrests in the case are expected soon.
