In a significant crackdown on criminal elements, Muzaffarnagar district police shot nine accused in the legs and arrested 10 individuals during seven separate police encounters within a span of 24 hours. The operation targeted individuals facing charges of robbery, dacoity, attempt to murder, and offenses under the Gangster Act, according to police officials.

Operations Across Multiple Areas

The encounters took place in several areas, including New Mandi, Mansoorpur, Budhana, and Kotwali Nagar. Among those arrested were two wanted criminals with bounties of Rs 20,000 each on their heads. Police stated that the accused opened fire on police teams during the operations, prompting retaliatory action. The injured accused were taken to the district hospital for treatment under police custody and later sent to jail after completing legal formalities.

Recovery of Weapons and Stolen Items

During the encounters, police recovered a substantial cache of weapons and stolen goods. This included seven country-made firearms, pistols, eight spent cartridges, eight live cartridges, approximately 400 grams of silver ornaments, six motorcycles, a scooter without a registration plate, and some cash. Officials indicated that the recovered items are suspected to be linked to recent criminal activities in the district.

SSP Sanjay Kumar Verma confirmed the details, stating, "Yes, seven encounters were carried out in the last 24 hours. The accused fired at police teams, and in retaliatory action, they were injured and arrested. Strict legal action is being ensured, and all accused are being sent to jail." He further added that the arrested individuals were involved in several criminal cases registered at police stations in Muzaffarnagar and Punjab.

Police have stated that further investigation is underway to trace the accused's connections with other criminal networks and incidents across the region. The crackdown underscores the police department's commitment to curbing criminal activities and ensuring public safety in Muzaffarnagar district.
