The police investigating the sexual assault case against film director Ranjith are in the final stages of filing a chargesheet, officials confirmed on Sunday. The investigation team has begun uploading documents to the court's online platform, a key step before submission.
Sources indicated that the hardcopy of the chargesheet will be filed shortly before the concerned Judicial First Class Magistrate Court. Ranjith remains the sole accused, as the probe found no evidence of any accomplices.
Arrest and Bail Details
The director was arrested on March 31 following a complaint by a young actor. According to the complaint, Ranjith allegedly sexually assaulted her inside a caravan during a film shoot at Fort Kochi in January 2025. After spending 10 days in judicial custody, he was granted bail by a court.
Previous Allegations
Ranjith had previously been booked for misbehaving with a Bengali actor after the release of the Justice Hema Committee report in 2024. However, that case was quashed by the Kerala High Court. The current chargesheet focuses solely on the 2025 incident.
Police have gathered forensic evidence and witness statements to build the case. Officials said the chargesheet will detail the allegations and evidence gathered during the investigation.
