A swift response by vigilant residents in Prayagraj prevented a horrific crime on Wednesday, leading to the arrest of a man accused of attempting to sexually assault a deaf and mute minor girl. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Industrial Area police station.
Locals Take Action, Apprehend Accused
According to police, the irate local community first confronted and thrashed the 28-year-old accused before formally handing him over to the authorities. DCP (Trans Yamuna) Vivek Chandra Yadav confirmed the arrest, stating that an FIR has been registered and the investigation is ongoing.
Details of the Alleged Assault
The girl's family members informed the police that the accused, identified as Manish, lives in the same neighbourhood. They alleged that on Tuesday night, Manish used gestures to call the girl and took her behind a nearby guest house building under a false pretext.
However, alert family members grew suspicious when she went missing. They immediately began a search and reached the spot, where they found the accused allegedly trying to outrage the girl's modesty. Upon seeing the family, Manish managed to flee the scene temporarily.
Police Investigation with Special Assistance
The community's vigilance continued into Wednesday morning, when family members and other locals located Manish, caught him, and after subduing him, presented him to the police. DCP Yadav noted that a critical step in the probe involves recording the victim's statement. To ensure accurate communication, a team of translators has been assigned to interact with the deaf and mute survivor.
The police have confirmed the arrest of the youth and emphasized that further investigation is underway to examine all aspects of the case.
