A 28-year-old woman, eight months pregnant, was allegedly smothered to death by her husband in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor district. Police reported that the couple had a strained relationship with a history of domestic abuse.

The accused, Mukesh Saini, was arrested on Saturday after a post-mortem examination revealed that his wife, Meenakshi, died due to suffocation, according to PTI. The police intensified the investigation following the autopsy results.

Incident Details and Arrest

Station House Officer (Mandawar) Sanjay Kumar stated that Meenakshi was found dead on her bed at their home in Simla Khurd village on Friday morning. Initially, the woman's family approached police alleging dowry-related harassment.

However, the post-mortem findings indicated death by suffocation, leading to the husband's arrest. Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
