Pune Court Delivers Justice in 2017 Farmhouse Murder Case
A court in Pune has delivered a decisive verdict in a horrific crime that shocked the region. On Tuesday, the court of additional sessions judge D K Anbhule at Vadgaon Maval convicted ten individuals. The judge sentenced all ten accused to rigorous life imprisonment for their roles in a brutal murder.
The Tragic Incident Unfolds
The crime occurred in the early hours of April 25, 2017. A group of dacoits targeted a farmhouse in Dhamane village near Talegaon, approximately 35 kilometers from Pune city. They murdered elderly farmer Nathu Phale, aged 65, and his 60-year-old wife Chababai. The assailants also killed the couple's son, Atrinandan, who was also known as Aba.
This was not the only violence that night. The dacoits severely assaulted the farmer's daughter-in-law, Tejashri, who was 26 years old at the time. They also thrashed one of his three granddaughters. After committing these acts, the criminals fled the scene. They took gold jewellery and cash from the house.
A Harrowing Escape and Police Action
The incident came to light around 4:30 AM on that fateful day. Tejashri, blood-soaked and traumatized, managed to walk with her two daughters to a neighbour's house. The distance was about half a kilometer. She narrated the entire horrific event to her neighbour, Rohidas Garade. Overwhelmed, she fainted right at his doorstep.
Police swiftly launched an investigation. They later arrested the accused individuals. Authorities filed a chargesheet against them for multiple serious offences. These included armed dacoity and murder, among other charges.

- Supar alias Suparya Pyaav Chavan
- Raju Tukaram Shingad
- Ajay Shivaji Pawar
- Yogesh Birju Bhosale
- Deepak Birju Bhosale
Investigation and Trial Details
Inspector Mugut Bhanudas Patil led the investigation. At the time of the crime, he was in charge of the Talegaon Dabhade police station. Additional public prosecutor Smita Chaugule represented the state during the trial proceedings. Her efforts contributed to securing the convictions.
This verdict brings a measure of closure to a case that highlighted rural crime and judicial perseverance. The court's decision underscores the seriousness with which such violent offences are treated in the Indian legal system.
