In a brazen late-night incident, three men on a motorcycle threatened and robbed three individuals at knife-point in Pune's Chinchwad area, making off with cash and valuables worth a total of ₹50,000. The crime occurred in the early hours of Sunday, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Sequence of the Late-Night Robbery
The chain of events began when a 37-year-old electrician, a resident of Nigdi Pradhikaran, received a call from a friend around midnight on the night between Saturday and Sunday. His friend, who was in Bijleenagar, Chinchwad, requested a ride home. The complainant promptly reached the location, where they were later joined by another friend.
The trio conversed on the roadside until approximately 2:45 am. Shortly after, around 3 am, as the electrician and his first friend started walking towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, three unidentified men on a motorcycle accosted them and forced them to stop.
Violent Threats and Theft
One of the assailants brandished a billhook, a sharp agricultural weapon, and threatened the electrician. Under this threat, the robbers snatched ₹20,000 from the electrician's wallet. They also forcibly took his friend's mobile phone.
Not content with this, the same motorcycle-borne trio targeted another person at Dagdoba Chowk, robbing him of ₹10,000 in cash. The swift and aggressive nature of the attacks left the victims terrified.
Police Investigation Underway
The electrician later filed a formal complaint with the Chinchwad police station. An investigating officer confirmed the details, stating that the complainant provided a detailed description of the three suspects. "We are working on some clues based on the descriptions given," the officer stated, indicating that an active investigation is in progress to apprehend the culprits.
This incident highlights concerns about late-night safety in the area. Police are likely to increase patrols as they pursue the leads in this case of armed robbery.
