In a major breakthrough, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of Punjab, in collaboration with the Mohali Police, has apprehended a key operative linked to foreign-based gangsters. The operation led to the recovery of a .32 calibre pistol along with five live cartridges, as confirmed by Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Friday.
Details of the Operation
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused was acting under the direct instructions of handlers based abroad. The individual had been assigned multiple targets across the Tricity region, which includes Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula. Officials have stated that this arrest has successfully averted potentially serious criminal activities in the area.
Previous Operations
This development follows an earlier joint operation conducted on April 18, during which a gangster module was dismantled with the arrest of four accused individuals. The police have been intensifying efforts to crack down on organised crime networks operating in the state.
Ongoing Investigation
Further investigation is currently underway to establish both backward and forward linkages of the network. Authorities are working to trace the connections and identify other members involved in the gang's operations.
Commitment to Security
The Punjab Police have reiterated their commitment to dismantling organised gangster networks and ensuring peace and security across the state. This arrest underscores the effectiveness of coordinated efforts between different law enforcement agencies in combating crime.
