Punjab Police have busted a gangster module linked to foreign-based handlers, arresting three individuals in Amritsar. The arrests were made following a joint operation by the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) and local police. An FIR has been registered at the SSOC police station in Amritsar.
Details of the Operation
According to a police spokesperson, the operation was launched based on intelligence inputs about a gang operating in the region. The accused were identified as Jaspreet Singh, Gurpreet Singh, and Harpreet Singh, all residents of Amritsar. Police recovered three pistols, a revolver, and a significant quantity of ammunition from their possession.
Links to Foreign Handlers
Preliminary investigations revealed that the module was in contact with handlers based in Canada and the United Kingdom. The handlers were allegedly providing financial and logistical support for criminal activities, including targeted killings and extortion. Police are now working to trace the source of the weapons and the network's wider operations.
Impact and Ongoing Investigation
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSOC) Amritsar, Satinder Singh, stated: “This is a major breakthrough in dismantling the network of gangsters operating with foreign links. We are interrogating the accused to gather more information about their associates and planned activities.” The arrests are expected to disrupt the module's operations in the state. Further investigations are underway to identify other members and their handlers abroad.
