Rajkot: Man and Accomplice Allegedly Kill Brother-in-Law with SUV in Revenge for Elopement and Marriage

In a shocking incident in Rajkot's Bhachau area, a man and his friend have been arrested for allegedly killing the victim by ramming him with an SUV. The murder was driven by deep-seated resentment over the victim's relationship with the accused's sister, which began with an elopement when she was a minor and culminated in a legal marriage after she reached adulthood.

Details of the Fatal Incident

The crime occurred at approximately 8:15 PM on Wednesday evening in the Himmatpura Kuluwadi area. Vinod, also known as Jigar Koli, was walking beside a road when the accused, Mehul Koli and Harshad Prajapati, deliberately struck him with an SUV. The violent collision resulted in severe injuries that proved fatal, leading to Vinod's death. Bhachau police swiftly responded, registering a murder case and launching an investigation that led to the arrest of both suspects within hours.

Background and Motive for the Murder

Police investigations revealed that the motive stemmed from a long-standing family dispute. Vinod had fallen in love with Mehul's sister, Shilpa, and the two eloped in 2022 while Shilpa was still a minor. This prompted the filing of a kidnapping case against Vinod. However, when Shilpa turned adult in 2023, the couple proceeded to get legally married, which further inflamed tensions.

"Mehul felt the relationship had dishonoured his family and was deeply resentful about it," a police officer stated, highlighting the emotional turmoil behind the crime. This hostility had previously manifested in physical altercations, including an incident a year earlier where Mehul and Vinod intentionally rammed their motorcycles into each other.

Arrests and Legal Action

The accused, Mehul Koli (22) and Harshad Prajapati (19), both residents of Bhachau who work as drivers, were apprehended by police. It is alleged that Mehul, intent on revenge, enlisted Harshad's help to carry out the murder. Authorities have registered a case against the duo under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 103(1) and 54 at the Bhachau police station, with the investigation ongoing to uncover further details.

This case underscores the severe consequences of family conflicts and honor-based disputes in the region, serving as a grim reminder of how unresolved grievances can escalate into violence.
