In a heart-wrenching incident in Gujarat's Rajkot district, a 30-year-old woman and her eight-year-old son died after jumping from a lighthouse. The Dwarka police have now registered a case against the woman's husband and her own father for allegedly driving her to take the extreme step.
Family Abandonment Led to Despair
Investigation into the tragic event that occurred on Sunday has revealed a prolonged period of suffering for the deceased, identified as Soyna Solanki. According to statements from relatives and the police, Soyna's husband, Mayur, had abandoned her nine years ago. Despite several attempts at reconciliation, Mayur reportedly refused to accept Soyna and their son, Mayank, into his life.
Left without support from her husband, Soyna turned to her father, Mashri Gami, for help. Shockingly, instead of offering solace, her father allegedly taunted her and told her to "drink poison and die." Facing rejection from both her spouse and her parent, Soyna was pushed into a state of extreme distress.
A Drastic Step and Immediate Aftermath
Unable to bear the emotional torment any longer, Soyna took the drastic step on Sunday. She went to the lighthouse in Dwarka and jumped from the third floor, holding her young son, Mayank. Both mother and child died on the spot.
The following day, on Monday, Soyna's mother, Jeevi, filed a formal complaint at the Dwarka police station. Based on her statement, the police booked both Mayur and Mashri Gami under charges of abetment to suicide.
Police Action and Ongoing Investigation
Speaking to the media, Dwarka police station inspector Akash Barasia confirmed the developments. He stated that Mashri Gami has been arrested in connection with the case. Police teams are actively working to locate and apprehend the absconding husband, Mayur.
Inspector Barasia provided further details about the accused. Mashri Gami leads a retired life, while Mayur is reportedly involved in the betelnut business in Raval village, which adjoins the Dwarka area. The police investigation is ongoing to piece together the complete sequence of events and the extent of culpability.
This tragic incident has cast a spotlight on the severe consequences of familial neglect and abandonment, leading to a devastating loss of two lives.
