Bengaluru police have arrested a man identified as Ahmed for allegedly stealing gold worth Rs 1.13 crore from the residence of Karnataka Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan. The arrest was made on Tuesday, following a swift investigation by the city police.
Accused Known to Family
A senior police officer confirmed that the prime accused, Ahmed, is a distant relative of the minister's mother, Sogar Khanam. He was familiar with the household and had visited the residence on multiple occasions. The theft came to light when the family noticed the missing gold ornaments and reported the matter to the police.
Recovery of Stolen Items
During the investigation, police recovered a significant portion of the stolen gold from the accused's possession. The remaining items are believed to have been sold or pawned. Authorities are now tracing the buyers to recover the rest of the valuables.
The incident has raised concerns about security at the homes of public figures in Bengaluru. Police have assured that strict action will be taken against the accused and that they are investigating if any other individuals were involved in the crime.
Minister Zameer Khan thanked the police for their swift action and urged citizens to remain vigilant. The accused has been remanded to judicial custody and further investigations are underway.
