Major Cash Seizure at Koderma Railway Station

In a significant operation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Koderma confiscated a substantial amount of unaccounted cash totaling Rs 40 lakh from a passenger at the Koderma railway station on Tuesday evening. The official announcement came from police authorities on Wednesday, revealing details of the carefully executed operation.

Tip-Off Leads to Detention

GRP in-charge Upendra Kumar disclosed that the seizure followed specific intelligence inputs about suspicious activity. Acting promptly on the tip-off, railway police officials detained a man identified as Amit Kumar, who hails from Jamui district in Bihar.

During preliminary interrogation, the detained individual claimed to be a gold merchant traveling to Kolkata for business purposes. However, when questioned about the large sum of money in his possession, Kumar failed to provide any legitimate documentation to establish the source of the funds.

Adding to the suspicious circumstances, railway authorities noted that the passenger did not possess a valid railway ticket for his journey, raising further questions about his travel intentions.

Official Seizure Procedure Followed

Following standard protocols for handling such substantial cash seizures, the GRP appointed a magistrate to oversee the formal confiscation process. The entire amount of Rs 40 lakh was officially seized in the presence of the magistrate, ensuring all legal procedures were properly documented and followed.

GRP officials have maintained transparency in the process, immediately informing senior officers in Dhanbad about the significant seizure. The case has drawn attention from higher authorities given the substantial amount involved and the circumstances surrounding the discovery.

Upendra Kumar emphasized that further action concerning both the recovered money and the detained individual will be determined based on directions from senior railway and police authorities, along with necessary involvement from the Income Tax Department.

The incident highlights continued vigilance by railway police against illegal transportation of unaccounted money through the railway network, particularly at key stations like Koderma that serve as important transit points in the region.
