Kolkata Police has launched an extensive search operation to locate a man who jumped into the Hooghly River on Sunday night. The individual, identified as Raj Kumar, remained missing as of Monday afternoon, prompting continued efforts by authorities.

Raj Kumar, a 35-year-old resident originally from Bihar, had been living in Howrah for several years. According to police reports, the incident occurred on Sunday night near the iconic Chandpal Ghat. Kumar had been consuming alcohol with a friend at a spot close to the riverbank before the event unfolded.
After leaving the area with his companion, Kumar proceeded towards the river's edge and plunged into the waters of the Hooghly. Authorities at the North Port Police Station were alerted soon after and immediately initiated a search operation that lasted through the night.

The search resumed in full force on Monday morning. Police have deployed divers to meticulously scan the water and nearby stretches of the river.
