Security Forces Engage Terrorists in Kathua, J&K

Security forces engaged in a fierce gunfight with terrorists in a remote area of Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district on Wednesday. The encounter unfolded in the forested region of Kamadh Nullah near Kahog village in Billawar.

Operation Launched After Terrorist Sighting

According to officials, the operation was initiated this evening after specific intelligence indicated the presence of two to three terrorists in the area. The search action by security forces quickly turned into an encounter as the hidden militants opened fire.

Inspector General of Police (Jammu) Bhim Sen Tuti confirmed the engagement on social media platform X. "SOG Kathua has engaged terrorists in the forest of Kamadh Nullah, Kathua," he stated in his post.

Local Alert Triggers Swift Action

Sources revealed that the initial alert came from local villagers. At around 4 pm, residents spotted a terrorist in the Kamad Nallah area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Billawar police station. This individual is suspected to be the same person who was reportedly seen earlier in the day at Dhannu Parole.

The security cordon was immediately tightened, leading to the exchange of fire. The difficult terrain of the forest and nullah region presented a challenge for the operating teams.

Reinforcements Rushed to the Scene

To ensure the terrorists are neutralized and to prevent any escape, officials confirmed that additional forces have been swiftly dispatched to the village. The operation was ongoing at the time of the last report, with security personnel maintaining a tight cordon around the encounter site.

This incident highlights the continued efforts of security forces to combat terrorism in the Jammu region. The area has witnessed increased militant activity in recent months, prompting heightened vigilance and proactive operations.
