A significant fire broke out in a cloth warehouse in Kanpur on Wednesday night, causing alarm in the Pechbag locality. The incident, attributed to a short circuit, led to a swift response from emergency services.
Timely Alert and Emergency Response
Local residents first noticed flames shooting from the warehouse and immediately alerted the fire brigade and police. ACP Anwarganj Abhishek Kumar and Latouche Road Fire Officer Kailash Chandra quickly arrived at the scene to coordinate the efforts.
The firefighting operation was intensive, requiring the use of five water tankers. To aid the extinguishing process and prevent further hazards, the electricity supply to the surrounding area was deliberately cut off. After a strenuous effort lasting approximately one and a half hours, the fire brigade personnel successfully brought the blaze under control.
Details of the Affected Business
The warehouse was owned by Mo Shami, a resident of Chhote Miya Hata in Colonelganj. He operated the business with his sons, Saif and Ammar. Their storage unit, located on the first floor of a shop opposite the Gulab Complex in Pechbag, primarily contained a stock of jackets.
The fire ignited late on Wednesday night. Upon seeing the rising flames, people from the entire neighborhood rushed out onto the streets. They attempted to douse the fire using their own methods, but the intensity of the blaze rendered their efforts ineffective.
No Injuries Reported
Fortunately, the incident did not result in any loss of life or injuries. Fire Officer Kailash Chandra confirmed that all individuals were safe. The primary damage was confined to the property and the stock stored within the warehouse. The incident underscores the ever-present risk of fire, especially in commercial storage facilities, and highlights the importance of proper electrical maintenance and swift emergency response.
