Murder Plot Uncovered at Pune Cafe
Police investigations into the murder of Ketan have revealed that Siya Goyal and her boyfriend meticulously planned the crime at a cafe in Pune days before the execution. The chilling details emerged from digital evidence and witness statements, according to senior police officials.
How the Plan Was Hatched
According to the police, Siya Goyal and her boyfriend met at a popular cafe in Pune's Koregaon Park area on June 15, 2026, where they discussed the murder of Ketan over coffee. The cafe's CCTV footage captured the couple discussing a map and making notes. Police recovered a diary from Siya's residence that contained a rough sketch of the murder location and timings.
"The accused visited the cafe multiple times to finalize the plan. They even rehearsed the sequence of events," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Rajesh Kumar. The couple allegedly used encrypted messaging apps to communicate after the meetups.
Execution of the Crime
On June 20, 2026, Ketan was found dead in his apartment in Pune's Hinjawadi area with multiple stab wounds. Police arrested Siya Goyal and her boyfriend on June 22 after tracking their movements using cell tower data. The murder weapon, a kitchen knife, was recovered from a nearby river.
Police sources confirmed that Siya had been in a relationship with Ketan earlier but had broken up. The motive appears to be jealousy and financial disputes. "Ketan had lent money to Siya, and she was unable to repay. The accused planned to eliminate him to avoid repayment," the DCP added.
Evidence and Arrests
Forensic teams matched fingerprints from the diary and cafe receipts to the accused. The cafe's staff identified the couple as regulars who spent hours discussing something secretively. "They always sat in the corner and spoke in hushed tones. We didn't suspect anything at the time," said a cafe employee.
Siya Goyal, a 24-year-old software engineer, and her boyfriend, a 26-year-old marketing executive, have been remanded to police custody until July 5. They face charges under Section 302 (murder) and Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
