Son Allegedly Murders Elderly Mother in Nizamabad Over Alcohol Money Dispute

A shocking incident of filial violence has rocked the Kotagiri area in Nizamabad district, where a 70-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her own son after she refused to give him money to purchase alcohol. The brutal crime unfolded on Friday night, highlighting the devastating impact of addiction on family dynamics.

Details of the Tragic Incident

According to police reports, the accused, identified as Manaji (48), engaged in a heated argument with his mother, P Boomavva, while he was in an inebriated state. The confrontation escalated when Manaji demanded money from the elderly woman, and upon her refusal, he reportedly flew into a violent rage. "First, Manaji attacked her with a bottle and later with a stick. She died on the spot," stated officials from the Kotagiri police station.

Following the initial assault, other family members were alerted to the situation. In a disturbing turn of events, the body was moved from the scene of the attack to another room and laid on the floor, covered with a cloth. Nearly two hours later, Manaji allegedly took a diya that had been lit near the body, poured the burning oil on his mother, and set her ablaze. Family members quickly intervened to douse the flames, but not before the victim's legs and neck sustained severe burns.

Police Investigation and Legal Action

The murder occurred around 10 pm on Friday, but it was only on Saturday morning that Boomavva's daughter approached the police station to lodge a formal complaint. Police revealed that Manaji, who works as a rag picker, has a known addiction to alcohol. He has since been taken into custody and is undergoing questioning by authorities.

A case has been registered under section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), reflecting the gravity of the offense. This tragic event underscores the urgent need for addressing substance abuse issues within communities to prevent such horrific outcomes.
