Tension in Kolkata's Topsia after women allegedly assaulted

Kolkata witnessed tension in the Topsia area on Tuesday evening after residents alleged that some miscreants had used foul language against several local women. The standoff, which lasted about two and a half hours, led to former state minister and newly elected Kasba MLA Javed Ahmed Khan rushing to the spot to pacify the agitated crowd.

Incident Details

According to sources, the unrest was triggered after the daughter of one of Khan's staff members was reportedly assaulted and molested. The victim has since approached the Pragati Maidan Police Station to file a formal complaint. To maintain order, police deployment in the area has been significantly increased.

Sources also claimed there was an attempt to vandalize and take over the Pragati Maidan party office and a local club. Trinamool Congress sources indicated that the protest on the road was also aimed at ensuring the party office remained undamaged.
