Arrest Made in Fatal Vasant Kunj Hit-and-Run

Delhi Police have arrested Apurv Singh, 30, for allegedly driving a Mahindra Thar that struck and killed a motorcyclist in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj area on June 25, 2026. The victim, Sarthak Mattoo, 34, a Gurugram resident employed with an event management company, died on the spot.

The incident came to light after a PCR call was received at Vasant Kunj South police station, reporting a car hitting a motorcycle. Police rushed Mattoo to the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Sequence of Events and Investigation

An FIR was registered under relevant legal sections, and the body was sent to Safdarjung Hospital for post-mortem before being handed over to the family. Investigators traced the offending vehicle, a Mahindra Thar, to a Bengaluru-based private company. The vehicle had been leased to Sagar Saha, 29, a native of Bihar employed by the company and posted in Bengaluru.

During questioning, Saha claimed that at the time of the accident, his friend Apurv Singh was driving while Saha sat in the front passenger seat. Singh, a native of Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, works for a private firm and resides in Gurugram. Police seized the vehicle and arrested Singh, conducting his medical examination at Safdarjung Hospital.

According to police, further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances and any additional violations. The arrest underscores the authorities' commitment to road safety and accountability in fatal accidents. The case has drawn attention to reckless driving in the national capital, with officials emphasizing strict action against offenders.
