Thieves Break Into Jailed Mother-in-Law's House in Twisha Case

Thieves broke into the Bhopal residence of Giribala Singh, a former judge currently jailed in connection with her daughter-in-law Twisha Sharma’s death, prompting a police investigation into the incident, officials said on Monday.

Details of the Theft

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rajneesh Kashyap, CCTV cameras near the scene showed four accused entering the first floor of Singh’s Katara Hills residence from the back door, while two others stood outside the house below. The incident occurred around 2 am on Saturday. The suspects made off with a gold necklace and some silver items, but panicked upon hearing police sirens and fled, abandoning a bag containing the stolen goods.

ACP Kashyap, who heads the special investigation team (SIT) formed to probe Twisha’s death, said that Singh’s brother, retired Colonel Ranveer Singh Bhadoria, was sleeping in the house at the time. The FIR was registered based on his complaint. Police are using the CCTV footage to identify the accused.

Recovered Items and Lawyer's Concerns

Police recovered a necklace, some silver items, betel leaves, a slingshot, and some clothes from the abandoned bag. Kashyap denied that the thieves had stolen any files or documents. However, Anurag Shrivastava, the lawyer representing Twisha’s family, urged the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to secure all documents at the site, fearing a potential attempt to tamper with the crime scene.

“Since the Singh residence is a scene of crime, all documents on the premises should be secured and handed over to the CBI,” Shrivastava said.

Background of the Case

Twisha Sharma, 33, was found hanging in the same house on May 12. Her husband, Samarth Singh, and his mother, retired judge Giribala Singh, were arrested in connection with her death and are lodged in Bhopal Central Jail. The CBI is currently investigating the case. The theft has raised concerns about potential evidence tampering as the investigation continues.
