NDRF Recovers Third Body in Guwahati Brahmaputra Tragedy; Two Still Missing
Third Body Recovered in Guwahati Brahmaputra Drowning

In a somber development, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Wednesday morning recovered the body of a 28-year-old man from the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati. This marks the third fatality confirmed from a tragic incident last week where a group of five individuals drowned.

Details of the Recovery Operation

The recovery mission was launched after the Station House Officer of Latasil Police Station alerted rescue teams about a body seen floating in the river near the Kharguli area at 9:30 am. Responding with urgency, an 11-member NDRF team, led by Inspector Kumar Gaurav, swiftly mobilized to the site.

The team utilized two inflatable rescue boats to reach the location. Demonstrating their trained efficiency, the personnel retrieved the body within a short span of 10 minutes, completing the operation by 9:40 am.

Victims Identified in the Tragic Incident

The deceased has been identified as Sagar Gautam, a resident of Gurgaon. This recovery follows the earlier retrieval of the bodies of two other victims from the same group:

  • Pratap Rai
  • Raunak Chadak

Both Rai and Chadak were natives of Assam. The tragic incident occurred the previous Wednesday when the five-member group reportedly drowned in the mighty Brahmaputra.

Ongoing Search and Community Impact

Despite this recovery, the ordeal is far from over for the families involved. Two individuals from the group remain missing. The search continues for:

  • Upesh Kumar
  • Abhijeet

The repeated incidents of drowning in the Brahmaputra, especially near urban areas like Guwahati, highlight ongoing safety concerns. The river's strong currents and unpredictable nature pose a constant risk, underscoring the critical need for public awareness and enhanced safety measures along its banks.

The NDRF's persistent efforts in these search and recovery operations continue to be vital in providing closure to grieving families, even as the hope of finding survivors diminishes with each passing day.
