Three arrested for temple thefts in Gurugram, cash recovered

The Gurugram police have arrested three individuals in connection with thefts at two temples on the same night. The accused were taken into custody on Friday from Wazirabad village. Authorities recovered Rs 21,000 in cash and a CNG auto-rickshaw used in the crime.

Details of the Arrests

The arrests followed a complaint lodged on June 23 at the Sadar police station regarding the theft of cash from a donation box at a temple in Jharsa village. The police registered an FIR based on the complaint. A team from Crime Unit Sector-39 conducted the investigation and apprehended the suspects.

The accused have been identified as Ratan, a resident of Chanderia village in Chittorgarh district, Rajasthan, who was living in a jhuggi near JMD, Sector 65, Gurugram; Azad, a resident of Rawliya village in Limbada, Chittorgarh district; and Kanha Ram, a resident of Madhubani village in Tonk district, Rajasthan. Azad and Kanha Ram were residing at Wazirabad Dhani Jhuggi in Gurugram.

Confession and Recovery

During interrogation, the accused disclosed their involvement in another temple theft case under the jurisdiction of the Sector 50 police station. They confessed to committing thefts at two temples on the same night. The police recovered Rs 21,000 in cash and the CNG auto-rickshaw used in the crime from their possession. A Gurugram police spokesperson stated, “Further questioning of the accused is under way.”

The incident highlights the ongoing issue of temple thefts in the region. The police are continuing their investigation to determine if the accused are linked to other similar crimes.
