In a distressing incident in a village near Vandavasi in Tiruvannamalai district, the Vandavasi all-women police have arrested three men, including a 19-year-old youth, on charges of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl. The accused have been booked under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Details of the Case
According to police reports, the survivor had become acquainted with the 19-year-old accused while they were students at a school a couple of years ago. The youth allegedly lured the girl with false promises of marriage and sexually assaulted her. Two other men, aged 33 and 35 years, from the same village, also allegedly enticed and sexually assaulted the minor separately on different occasions.
How the Crime Came to Light
The crime came to light when the girl's family noticed physical changes in her and took her to the Tiruvannamalai Government Medical College Hospital for treatment. Medical examinations confirmed that the teenager was pregnant. Subsequently, her parents lodged a complaint with the Vandavasi all-women police.
Legal Action Taken
Following the complaint, the police promptly arrested the three accused. They were produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody. The authorities are investigating the matter further to ensure justice for the survivor.
The case highlights the need for increased vigilance and strict enforcement of laws to protect minors from sexual offenses. The police have urged parents to be aware of their children's activities and report any suspicious behavior immediately.
