In a significant development, the Jaisalmer district police have made three additional arrests in connection with a disturbing case involving the illegal slaughter of a bull and the alleged operation of an unlawful slaughterhouse in Pokhran's Kelawa village. This brings the total number of individuals apprehended in this case to six.
Latest Arrests and Police Action
The police on Sunday arrested three wanted accused identified as Mujib, Barkat Ali, and Basit Khan. Their detention followed intensive interrogation in the ongoing probe. Jaisalmer SP Abhishek Shivhare confirmed the arrests and stated that rigorous questioning and investigation are currently in progress.
After their arrest, the three men were taken for a mandatory medical examination. At around 4 pm on Sunday, under heavy police security, a foot parade was conducted from the Pokhran police station via Jai Narayan Vyas Circle to the hospital.
Details of the Incident and Initial Arrests
The case originated from a complaint filed by a youth from Kelawa village on January 8. The complainant alleged that at approximately 1:30 am on January 7, unknown persons dragged away a bull that was tied near a vehicle. Villagers discovered the animal's remains later that morning.
Based on the report, a case was registered at the Pokhran police station, prompting an immediate investigation. Earlier, on January 9, police had already arrested three individuals: Gafar Khan (55), Murad Ali (24), and Mohammad Sharif alias Kalu (23). All six accused were subsequently paraded through the main roads of Pokhran city under tight security.
Ongoing Investigation and Official Warnings
The police administration has vowed to continue taking strict measures to uphold law and order in the district. Officials have also issued a public appeal, urging people to refrain from circulating inappropriate posts or comments on social media platforms regarding the case.
The district police are actively monitoring online activity and have warned of stringent legal action against anyone found spreading inflammatory content or attempting to create a nuisance. In a related action, on Saturday, police demolished an alleged illegal construction near Ramdevsar pond in Pokhran, which is said to belong to one of the initially arrested accused, Gafar Khan.
The investigation into the illegal slaughter and the suspected slaughterhouse operation remains active, with authorities committed to a thorough probe.
