KOLKATA: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has demanded a court-monitored Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the killing of Chandranath Rath, an aide of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari, while firmly denying any involvement in the murder. In a late-night statement issued on Wednesday, the party condemned what it described as the brutal murder of Chandranath Rath in Madhyamgram, along with the killing of three other TMC workers in incidents of post-poll violence allegedly carried out by BJP-backed miscreants over the preceding three days.
Demand for Strong Action
The TMC demanded the strongest possible action against those responsible and called for a court-monitored CBI probe so that the perpetrators could be identified and brought to justice without delay. The party emphasized the need for transparency in the investigation to ensure that the truth is uncovered.
Congress Accuses Both Parties
Meanwhile, the Congress party accused both the TMC and the BJP of turning every tragedy into a political battle. Congress leaders urged for an impartial inquiry and criticized the politicization of violent incidents, demanding that the focus remain on delivering justice to the victims and their families.
The murder of Chandranath Rath has further escalated tensions between the two major political parties in West Bengal, with each side trading accusations of violence and political vendetta. The TMC's call for a CBI probe is seen as an attempt to ensure an independent investigation, given the charged political atmosphere in the state.
